Our show opens with two elderly gentlemen, Tony Steele and Willie Edelston, reminiscing on a park bench about their lives. They try to convince a nearby youngster that they both were once stars who traveled and performed with the great Ripinski Circus.
Their story takes the audience back in time to the Golden Age of Circus, when young Tony and Willie have run away to join the glitz and glamour of the big top – only to find that there’s also drama and danger in life in the sawdust. Joining a crew of rowdy roustabouts, Tony and Willie quickly learn who really runs the show: the mighty, Musclemen Daredevils and the uppity, Divas of Danger, but most of all the dastardly, manipulative, power-crazed Ringmaster, who runs the center ring with showmanship and charisma—but the rest of the circus with an iron fist. Before too long, Tony and Willie discover that their strength and agility make them a natural for life in the spotlight. However, to attain that coveted place, they will have to overcome the bullish barriers of the Musclemen Daredevils. They also discover that Ileana DeCordoba, Queen of the Air, is the love of Willie’s life -- but pursuing her proves to be a dangerous game. Her every move is jealously guarded by the Ringmaster, and every attempt at wooing the gorgeous, brainy star is thwarted immediately. Within the Ripinski Circus’s incredible collection of roustabouts and performers, wild animals and sideshow acts, unlikely alliances form and deep-seated animosities brew. Ileana is as kind as she is beautiful, protecting the menagerie of animals from the cruel Ringmaster. The flirty, troublemaking Divas of Danger toy with all of the relationships around them, and among them all a sweet, sad clown longs for the elusive cotton candy girl. The tenuous, fear-based control that the Ringmaster has over his circus snaps, and all forces band together to take over the show and thwart his stronghold.
As their circus adventure tale comes to an end, Tony and Willie return to the present accompanying their new young friend from the park to the circus. Uncertain if the boy truly believes their stories, Tony and Willie conspire a surprise for all!
